“WHEN MY CHILD WITH DISABILITIES ASKS IF THEY CAN JOIN THEIR ABLE-BODIED SIBLINGS AT THE PLAYGROUND, I HAVE TO SAY “NO.” I END UP SAYING “NO” A LOT TO A CHILD WHO IS ALREADY FACING SUCH HARDSHIP. AN INCLUSIVE ADAPTIVE YES PLAYGROUND AT GEORGE MARK WOULD BE A GIFT TO US ALL.” - GMCH patient parent.
We are excited to announce that MSF is raising funds for George Mark Children's House’s inclusive, accessible YES playground. This project is incredibly meaningful, as it will provide a space where children with various abilities can play, interact, and experience the joy of outdoor recreation in an environment designed for THEIR needs. The YES playground features include:
-A no transfer We-Go-Swing
-A fully wheelchair accessible We-Go-Round
-An interactive Magic Harp with Light Pool
-A percussive sound instrument installation
-An accessible garden with plants and vegetables
-A 30-person shaded picnic area
We hope to contribute significantly to this initiative to ensure that children of all abilities have access to a safe and welcoming place to play.
Funds raised will also continue to support the 2025 Molly Smiles Grant Program, helping to provide families with the resources they need to enhance their child’s quality of life. From supporting therapies to funding adaptive equipment, these grants are vital for children with developmental, intellectual, and physical disabilities and the families who love them. The application period will open on February 1, 2025, and close on March 31, 2025.
In addition to raising funds for our key initiatives, Molly Smiles Foundation invites our community to support Ms. Sandra, Molly's beloved preschool teacher at Live Oak Elementary, with her Donors Choose project. As the most trusted classroom funding site, Donors Choose allows Ms. Sandra to raise funds for resources that will enhance motor and social skills, as well as improve sensory regulation for her students. We encourage you to check out the link below and help Ms. Sandra make a difference for her classroom!
Molly Smiles Foundation is a nonprofit organization committed to supporting special needs children and families in honor of Molly. Join us in spreading smiles and making a meaningful impact in the special needs community.
About Molly: Molly was born in 2018 and was the sweetest, happiest baby. She would light up the room with her smiles and cheerful disposition. In 2019 she was diagnosed with a rare chromosomal abnormality called Angelman syndrome. Common symptoms of Angelman syndrome involve significant developmental delays, seizures, sleep disturbances, and lack of speech. A prominent characteristic of people with Angelman syndrome is happiness and plenty of smiles.
Molly's family then worked with multiple agencies to get Molly all the support and services possible, over time Molly was making amazing progress when she unexpectedly passed away in her sleep in November of 2022.
Molly and her family were fortunate to be connected with George Mark Children House, a vital resource during Molly's life as well as providing support during Molly's family's bereavement.
Molly Smiles Foundation was formed to support other families to navigate caring for a special needs child.
Molly Smiles Foundation is an approved IRS 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Donations to Molly Smiles Foundation are tax-deductible.
